The Tower Hotel – Re-launch

Situated minutes away from the Magill campus of the University of South Australia is the Tower Hotel, which has recently undergone a 4 million dollar revamp in just under 8 weeks. Having personally been a uni student around that area, I had never really thought much of the Hotel or even ventured into it. However, when I attended the VIP re-launch of the Hotel a couple of days ago, I felt honored to have finally seen what the Tower Hotel offers to their customers. And by what most patrons reminisced about the place, it sounds like the Hotel is looking much brighter and inviting than what its preceding look presented with.

Based at the foothills of the Adelaide Hills, The Hotel has undergone a huge transformation where heritage meets modernity. After all, the Tower Hotel has been around since 1840, so while it may have aged well (a bit too well), a bit of modification has helped with sprucing up the place. Formerly catering to the older population, the new look of the Tower Hotel is hoping to bring in a diverse crowd of people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Its location by the uni campus has been factored in as well, with student-friendly food and drink services being offered in this space. Guests can also enjoy a couple of drinks and/or a wholesome meal against a picturesque backdrop of the Hills.

The beer garden may look like a small space, but I particularly loved the little ‘sections’ within this area. With summer approaching slowly but surely, locals can look forward to an enjoyable time out in the fresh air. Fairy lights that span across the beer garden have been fitted to provide a subtle but exciting sense of socializing as well as intimacy. Booths have been installed under flowery and leafy arches, so that bigger groups can have hearty meals with friends and family. The fresh breeze, coupled with live entertainment by local artists and bands (such as local artist Kiera, who was performing during the launch) are a winning combination in the summer season.

As part of the re-launch event, guests were treated to complimentary cocktails such as Espresso Martini and Lychee Caipiroska, along with wine and beer. For nibbles, there were samplers and tastings from their new menu, including the American cheeseburger sliders, salt and pepper squid, cured meats and pickles platter, and strawberry and cream tarts. The Hotel has also added 14 beers on tap and growing hops. Owner Greg Maitland mentioned how the new menu was created in consultation with a nutritionist, where classic pub meals with a healthy twist will be offered to guests.

There are several areas that encapsulate the essence of the Tower Hotel – including the beer garden, bistro-style dining area, a sports bar, and also a cinema complex for the little ones while their parents enjoy a feast. The cinema complex is designed to accommodate up to 40 kids and there are snacks, such as popcorn, fairy floss, and choc tops (to name a few) – attractive options to cool off in the summer heat!

With great customer service, a classic menu with healthier options, and a beer garden that offers versatile options of entertainment, the Tower Hotel can be considered to be a space to enjoy the sunset blanketing over the Hills and share a couple of drinks and food platters with friends and / or family.

Special thanks to Girl About Town for organizing the re-launch event and to the Tower Hotel for hosting their guests with complimentary nibbles & drinks.
